Fire Island, New York
Second-floor Italian-Continental dining over the Pines harbor.
Pines Bistro is the second-floor Italian and Continental restaurant in the heart of Fire Island Pines' harbor district, the closest thing the Pines has to a proper sit-down dinner room and the only one open across the full season. The kitchen leans seasonal and Italian, with dishes like lobster ravioli, grilled branzino, and calamari, plus a martini bar alongside for a drink before or after. The dining room looks out over the commercial harbor and the ferry terminal, giving it one of the more formal, settle-in atmospheres in a community built mostly around tea dances and quick harbor bites. It stayed independently run by PJ MacAteer — also behind Sip 'n Twirl and Pines Pizza — when most of the harbor's other venues changed hands in the 2024 sale that became the Waterfront at the Pines. It's where the Pines goes when it wants a real dinner rather than a sandwich on the deck.
