Part of the Gay Milwaukee Guide — bars, events & things to do.
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
A laid-back Walker's Point gay bar with an industrial feel and a patio.
Kruz is a men's gay bar on the edge of Walker's Point, the heart of Milwaukee's historic gayborhood, opened in 2006 with roots in the leather, bear, and Levi crowd — though in practice the room is more easygoing and mixed than that billing suggests. It sits in an 1899 building that has housed neighborhood taverns for generations, and the standout is the back patio: lush, secluded, and quiet enough to feel a world away from National Avenue. Inside it's a laid-back drinking bar with strong cocktails and bartenders who actually know the regulars. It keeps late hours seven days a week, which makes it a good place to settle in early or land late — an unpretentious counterpoint to the bigger dance clubs a few blocks over on 2nd Street.
