FLINTA-owned lesbian café-bar in Hackney with natural wine and tapas
La Camionera is a FLINTA-owned lesbian café-bar on Well Street in Hackney, opened in 2024 after a pop-up drew 500 people and a crowdfunding campaign raised over £50,000 in days. Co-founded by Alex Loveless (a trans masc musician) and Clara Solis (a Spanish artist), the name is Spanish slang for butch lesbians — literally "female truck driver." Daytimes it's a coffee-and-pastry spot; evenings it shifts to natural wine, cocktails, and tapas like patatas bravas and Spanish olives. The look is Mediterranean rather than rainbow flags and glitter: hand-painted tiles, candlelit bathrooms, stained-glass lamps, and a resident one-eyed cat named Captain. With a legal capacity of just 36, it feels closer to someone's living room than a bar — walk-in only, and queues on busy nights are part of the deal.
