Part of the Gay San Juan Guide — bars, events & things to do.

San Juan, Puerto Rico
Cash-only local dive on the Hato Rey gay strip — Medallas from $1
Mike's Bar "El Cojo" is a no-frills gay pub on the corner of Avenida Eleanor Roosevelt and Calle 12 de Octubre, in San Juan's university district near UPR. It's one of three adjacent LGBTQ+ bars on the same corner (alongside A Pedir De Boca and La Esquina de Polo), and the most well-known of the trio. The space is small — a bar, a small dance floor, TVs, and Latin music on rotation. Thursday is the big night, when university students fill the surrounding streets and the bar becomes a pre-club warmup before people head to bigger venues like SX or Circo in Santurce. Drinks are cheap by any standard: Medalla beers around $1.50, shots for a dollar, sangria under $3. The crowd is almost entirely local — tourists rarely find their way here — which is exactly the point for regulars.
