Miami, Florida
South Beach's Ocean Drive drag bar with sidewalk brunch shows.
Palace opened on Ocean Drive in 1988 and has been South Beach's street-facing drag institution ever since, with queens performing on a stage that opens to the sidewalk and stops pedestrians mid-stroll. Its history runs through the neighborhood's Versace-era heyday, when the block was the center of South Beach fashion; after a quieter stretch, Thomas Donall took it over in 2007 and rebuilt it around daily on-the-street shows, T-dances, and the drag brunch it's now known for. The kitchen runs from brunch into the night, but the calendar is the draw: weekend drag brunch from Friday through Monday plus nightly drag dinner shows. With the ocean directly across the street and the patio open to the boardwalk, it's the most visible queer spot on Ocean Drive and an easy one to fold into a South Beach day.
