Part of the Gay St. Petersburg Guide — bars, events & things to do.
St. Petersburg, Florida
Clearwater gay bar, open since 1976.
Florida's longest continuously operating gay bar opened in 1976 as a golfers' lounge with a deli — that concept flopped within a year. A lesbian bartender named Nancy O'Neill brought in her friends, the crowds followed, and the Anderson family embraced it. Patti Lux, one of the original owners, still holds the property at age 74. The neon sign just says "Pro Shop" with no indication of what's inside. The interior hasn't changed much: pool table, jukebox, cheap well drinks, and a cash-bar atmosphere that went non-smoking only in May 2026. Karaoke runs Monday nights, and drag shows hit the second Friday of each month. The crowd is a genuine mix — regulars, courthouse lawyers from across the street, allies, and longtime drinkers. On Cleveland Street in downtown Clearwater, this is effectively the only gay bar in the city proper.
