Part of the Gay Pittsburgh Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Strip District dive bar with go-go dancers, a Pittsburgh staple since 1990.
A staple of Pittsburgh's Strip District since 1990, Real Luck Café — universally known as 'Lucky's' — is a two-level gay bar and dance spot at 1519 Penn Avenue. The name carries its history: it started life as The Shamrock and picked up the 'Lucky's' nickname from former owner Robert 'Lucky' Johns, before Nancy Pribich bought it outright in 2004 and has run it ever since. The ground floor is a casual, old-school dive for sports and heavy, cheap pours; upstairs, a dance floor comes alive with male go-go dancers performing on the bar Thursday through Sunday. It's cash-only with no cover, smoking is still allowed indoors, and the kitchen turns out a signature bar pizza — all part of the unpretentious, no-frills charm. Mondays bring 'mystery beer chest' karaoke. The bar became a local legend in 2019 when Pribich refused to sell to developers, and construction crews ended up craning massive concrete slabs directly over its historic roof. A genuine survivor worth seeking out in the Strip.
