Part of the Gay Berlin Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Berlin, Germany
One of Germany's oldest LGBTQ+ community centers — 35+ support groups in Prenzlauer Berg since the 1970s.
One of the oldest queer institutions in Germany, with roots reaching back to 1973, when its predecessor group HIB was among the only meeting points for gay, lesbian, and trans people in East Berlin. The Sonntags-Club name came later, in the 1980s: under GDR conditions the group could only rent a space on Sundays, so it became the Sunday Club, and it registered as an association in 1990. Today it occupies a ground-floor home on Greifenhagener Straße in Prenzlauer Berg, with a café and street-side terrace. The center now houses around 35 self-help groups and counseling services covering coming-out and trans-specific support, plus a rotating calendar of cultural and educational events. It runs as a registered nonprofit (e.V.) and stays a working community space rather than a museum piece, the kind of neighborhood anchor for queer life north of Mitte that's increasingly rare in a gentrifying district. Worth knowing about if you want the community side of Berlin rather than just the bars.
