Part of the Gay San Juan Guide — bars, events & things to do.

San Juan, Puerto Rico
Santurce's beloved gay institution with pool tables and karaoke
Despite the name, Tía María's Liquor Store isn't a liquor store. It's one of Santurce's most enduring neighborhood gay bars, on Avenida José de Diego near the corner of Ponce de León. This is a down-to-earth, locals-first spot with two pool tables, a reputation for pouring some of the strongest drinks on the island, and karaoke nights that draw a loyal following. It's the unpretentious counterweight to San Juan's big drag clubs: as welcoming to women as to men, and equally good for an after-work happy hour or a late drink after dinner. There's no production and no cover, just a real Puerto Rican corner bar where visitors mix easily with regulars. Come here when you want the authentic neighborhood scene instead of a stage and a dance floor.
