Part of the Gay London Guide — bars, events & things to do.

London, London
Camden's historic drag pub, reopened in March 2026 after an 11-year closure.
The Black Cap is the Camden High Street pub that billed itself as the "Palladium of drag" for decades. It had a mostly gay crowd from the mid-1960s, Paul O'Grady has said Lily Savage made her debut on its stage in 1978, and Hinge and Bracket started out here. It closed in April 2015, and after a long community campaign it reopened on 21 March 2026 following a full refurbishment. The new Black Cap keeps the drag and cabaret focus, with Lily's Bar, a ground-floor showroom with a stage and dance floor, a second bar called the Shufflewick, and seven named rooms to book. The weekly calendar runs a Tuesday Queer Quiz, karaoke and London Queer Social on Wednesdays, and hosted drag shows Friday to Sunday. It is a five-minute walk from Camden Town station.
