Vancouver, British Columbia
Canada's oldest professional LGBTQ+ theatre company, producing queer work since 1996
Vancouver's oldest professional queer theatre company, producing 2SLGBTQ+-centered work since 1996. It began as Screaming Weenie Productions during the AIDS crisis and rebranded as the frank in 2013; it's now led by artistic director Fay Nass, a non-binary Iranian-Canadian artist whose programming leans into diaspora, gender, and the spaces between cultures. The company works across disciplines — theatre, cabaret, film, and media arts — and prioritizes trans, BIPOC, and neurodivergent creators within the queer community. Past work includes the Jessie Award-winning Camera Obscura (hungry ghosts) and the Lambda Literary Award-nominated Falling in Time, alongside its Queering Cinema film series. The frank often co-presents with partners like the PuSh Festival, The Cultch, and the Vancouver Queer Arts Festival, so its productions tend to land in venues across the city rather than on a single home stage.
