Part of the Gay Palm Springs Guide — bars, events & things to do.
Palm Springs, California
Men-only Warm Sands resort with three pools and a steam room since 1984
Vista Grande Resort is a men-only, clothing-optional property on Warm Sands Drive, at the center of the gay resort cluster that gives this pocket of south Palm Springs its name. It opened in 1984 as the first gay clothing-optional resort in the city and has grown from seven rooms to more than 30 units laid out across four themed sections (Avalon, Mirage, Vista Grande, and the Atrium) on over an acre of walled, gated grounds. Guests move between three pools, an 18-man hot tub, a waterfall bathing lagoon, and a steam room, with complimentary poolside breakfast in the mornings. The register here is a full-service gay men's resort rather than a small guesthouse, and the Warm Sands setting is the point: a quiet residential street where you can walk between properties, spend the day undressed by the water, and still be minutes from downtown Palm Springs. It suits travelers who want a social, adults-only base with room to disappear into gardens and mountain views when they want quiet. The mid-century modern layout and separately gated Atrium section give couples and solo guests a mix of poolside energy and privacy depending on where they book. Rooms run from compact 250-square-foot poolside cabanas up to the 900-square-foot Royal Waterfall Suite, and many units include kitchens or kitchenettes, which makes longer Palm Springs stays easy to settle into.
