Provincetown has one of the highest concentrations of gay bars per capita in the country. Nearly every bar in town is gay or gay-friendly, but these are the essential stops.

The Anchor Venues

  • The Crown & Anchor Hotel & Bars (247 Commercial St) — Ptown's biggest gay entertainment complex with six bars including the Wave Bar, the Cabaret Room for drag shows, The Vault (leather bar), and the Paramount. Now owned by Tryst Hospitality; the bars and shows are open for 2026, but the hotel rooms are closed for a renovation (returning as The Tryst in 2027)
  • A-House (4-6 Masonic Pl) — One of the oldest continuously operating gay bars in America with three spaces: the Little Bar, Macho Bar (leather bar), and the Big Room dance club

  • Purgatory Gifford House (Commercial St) — Go-to underground dance club for themed events
  • The Underground Provincetown (Commercial St) — Late-night dance spot

  • Provincetown Brewing Co. — Gay-owned craft brewery; its 141 Bradford Street taproom has closed and the brewery is currently between locations (check for its next home)
