Neighborhoods·Atlanta Gay Guide

What is the Gay Neighborhood in Atlanta?

Atlanta's primary LGBTQ+ neighborhood is Midtown, and its epicenter is the intersection of 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue — marked by permanent rainbow crosswalks installed in 2017. This intersection is considered ground zero for gay Atlanta, and the surrounding blocks are home to the densest concentration of gay bars, restaurants, and businesses in the Southeast.

What to Find in Midtown

The core gay strip runs along Piedmont Avenue NE from 10th Street north to Monroe Drive. Key landmarks include:

  • Ansley Square (1492 Piedmont Ave NE) — a shopping complex that functions as a gay courtyard, home to Atlanta Eagle, Mixx Atlanta, Felix's Atlanta, and Oscar's Bar
  • Blake's On The Park — Atlanta's most iconic gay bar, right at the rainbow crosswalk since 1988
  • X Midtown — Midtown's premier gay nightclub
  • Piedmont Park — the eastern boundary, and home to the Atlanta Pride Festival every October

The neighborhood is highly walkable and accessible via MARTA's Midtown station (Gold/Red Line).

Cheshire Bridge Road

A second nightlife corridor sits northeast of Midtown along Cheshire Bridge Road NE. This strip has historically been the hub for Atlanta's leather, bear, and kink community. Key venues include:

Other Queer Neighborhoods

  • Edgewood Avenue (Old Fourth Ward) — an emerging queer nightlife corridor home to Lore, one of Atlanta's most exciting newer venues
  • Decatur — about 20 minutes east via MARTA, with a high concentration of same-sex couples and home to Charis Books & More, one of the oldest feminist bookstores in the country
