Bar Saint Jean is a French-owned cocktail bar tucked into a basement on Ziegelstraße in Berlin-Mitte, opened in 2013 by Johann Courbiget. It deliberately skips the retro kitsch and rainbow flags of the typical scene bar in favor of low light, clean lines, and well-made drinks — the menu leans into craft cocktails and long drinks rather than beer. The crowd is mostly gay men who want a calmer, more grown-up start to the evening, where the conversation matters as much as the cocktail list. It's a small room, so weekend nights fill quickly and arriving early pays off. Think of it as the civilized first stop before a louder night in Mitte or Schöneberg, not the place you close down.
