Montreal, Québec
Canada's only gay country dance club, volunteer-run since 1994.
Club Bolo, founded in 1994, is Canada's only gay and lesbian country dance club — a volunteer-run non-profit that's been teaching the Montreal community to two-step and line dance for three decades. Weekly sessions run at the Centre Communautaire de Loisirs Sainte-Catherine d'Alexandrie on rue Atateken, a short walk from the Gay Village, covering line dancing, partner dancing, contra, and mixers from absolute-beginner up through advanced. An evening typically pairs a structured lesson with open social dancing afterward, and the first few classes are free, so it's genuinely easy to drop in and try. Sessions follow a school-year rhythm, roughly September through December and January through June, with seasonal 'stomps' in between. The club is a recognized member of the International Association of Gay/Lesbian Country Western Dance Clubs and a visible part of the annual Fierte Montreal festivities — a warm, older-skewing crowd and one of the Village's most welcoming soft landings if you don't know a soul.
