Queer bar-club in Dalston — café by day, underground DJ venue by night.
Two-floor queer bar and club on Kingsland High Street in Dalston, East London. The ground floor is a bar and daytime café serving brunch (including their well-known loaded hoisin duck fries), cocktails, and coffee. The basement is a sweaty dancefloor where DJs like Honey Dijon, Blessed Madonna, and Bicep have all played sets. Founded by Dan Beaumont and Matt Tucker in 2009. Programming runs nearly every night: MEAT on Fridays (go-go boys, house DJs), BodySwap on Wednesdays (trans+ community night), drag brunch on weekends, The Gossip (lesbian night), and Queer Open Decks for LGBTQ+ DJs. The venue incubated Sink the Pink and the Mighty Hoopla festival. Charli XCX and Robyn have both done surprise appearances in the basement. The crowd is deliberately wide — not a traditional gay bar. Beaumont has noted that early on "gay men were a bit sniffy" because the space welcomed women and trans people equally. Expect creative East London types who might show up painted green or dressed as a tree.
