Part of the Gay London Guide — bars, events & things to do.

London, London
Gay pub on Wardour Street with bingo, quiz, and DJ nights since 2001.
The Duke of Wellington — "The Welly" to regulars — has served gay Soho since 2001, when it took over a Wardour Street site that had been a chain bar. It works two ways: a relaxed daytime local, and a warm-up before a bigger night out. The weekly lineup stays busy — Busy Lady Bingo with Sheila Simmonds and Beverly on Tuesdays, a Wednesday pub quiz, FURSDAY for bears and admirers with DJ Ben Jamin, and DJ dance nights Friday through Sunday. Downstairs is where the dancing happens; upstairs is for tables and talk. It's dog-friendly, with a pavement drinking spot out front that fills up in summer, and step-free access available on request. Part of the Stonegate group, but it has kept the feel of an old-fashioned, friendly Soho local rather than a polished chain.
