Iconic gay nightclub under Charing Cross arches, open since 1979
Heaven is the venue — a ~1,600-capacity nightclub built into the railway arches beneath Charing Cross Station, open since 1979. G-A-Y is the resident club brand, launched by Jeremy Joseph at the London Astoria in the early '90s and moved here in 2008; Joseph now owns the building outright. The two names are inseparable in practice. G-A-Y nights run Thursday through Saturday with pop, dance, and live performances — the stage has hosted Madonna, Kylie, Lady Gaga, Adele, and One Direction, among others. Monday's long-running Popcorn night draws one of the biggest Monday crowds in the UK. Heaven pioneered Hi-NRG in the early '80s and served as a critical community space through the AIDS crisis, earning Asset of Community Value status in 2020.
