Sex-positive cruising bar in Friedrichshain with a DJ and darkroom
Grosse Freiheit 114 is a sex-positive cruising bar on Boxhagener Straße in Friedrichshain, across the city from the Schöneberg gay district. The layout runs front to back: a cocktail bar up front, a small dance floor with rotating DJs in the middle, and a darkroom with cabins at the back. There's no dress code and entry is free. The crowd skews younger and more alternative than West Berlin's older bars, in keeping with the Friedrichshain address. It's been a fixture on the street for years and relaunched under new ownership in 2021; regulars come for the darts, the jukebox, the patio, and the cruising in roughly equal measure. Payment is by card only. It's the natural anchor for a night out in queer Friedrichshain rather than something you'd pair with a Schöneberg crawl.
