Gay pub near Trafalgar Square with nightly basement drag cabaret
A traditional gay pub steps from Trafalgar Square, Halfway to Heaven has served the community since 1991. The name is a geographic joke — it sits roughly halfway between Soho's gay scene and the Heaven nightclub under Charing Cross. The ground floor is an unfussy local: wooden floors, cask ales (Doom Bar and St Austell Tribute among the regulars), and prices that stay reasonable for this part of central London. Downstairs, the basement cabaret lounge runs drag and cabaret seven nights a week, with resident performers including Martha D'Arthur and Miss Penny. The crowd skews older and more conversational than the club crowd up the road — regulars stopping in after work or before a show in the West End. Expect cabaret and karaoke through the week, and full programming across Pride weekend. A good first or last stop on a night out around Charing Cross.
