Professional LGBTQ+ theater in Wilton Manors, founded in 2012 by Artistic Director Andy Rogow. The roughly 60-seat black-box space produces dramas and comedies that explore gay life — Rogow's stated approach is "characters, not issues" — alongside American classics from Albee, Williams, and Hellman. Island City Stage has punched well above its size: six Carbonell Awards (South Florida's Tonys) in its first year for "The Timekeepers," plus Best New Work for Michael McKeever's "Daniel's Husband" in 2015. Now in its 14th season on Dixie Highway in Wilton Manors, the gay-majority city that's home to the Stonewall National Museum and one of the highest concentrations of gay couples per capita in the U.S.
