La Chachalaca, full name La Chachalaca Chatterbox & Bar, is an open, unpretentious gay bar on Francisca Rodríguez in the Zona Romántica, a couple of blocks off Blue Chairs Beach and a short walk from the Los Muertos pier. The look is low-key and a little kitsch: rainbow flags, disco balls, an airy room that opens to the street rather than a dark club interior. It leans neighborhood bar more than nightlife destination — a place to land for cocktails, mezcal, or a cheap round and actual conversation. The daily happy hour is one of the longest in the Romántica, which keeps an early-evening crowd of locals and visitors filtering through before the dance clubs pick up. Good as a first stop when you're feeling out the strip.
