Atlanta, Georgia
East Atlanta Village gay dive bar with karaoke and Thursday drag
Mary's is a gay dive bar on Glenwood Avenue in East Atlanta Village, open since 1998, when the owners of a short-lived lunch counter at the address turned it into EAV's first gay bar. Sitting outside the Midtown scene, it built a mixed crowd of gay men, lesbians, queer people and some straight regulars around an easygoing dive-bar feel. Longtime regulars and DJs Ben Cheaves and Bill Overall took it over in 2005. The week runs on fixed nights: Mary-oke karaoke on Wednesdays, drag night on Thursdays, Queer Bait video night on Fridays and rotating DJs on Saturdays, with the Gurlfiendz drag show on the first Saturday of the month.
