Jacksonville, Florida
Jacksonville's oldest gay bar on King Street, open since 1992
Jacksonville's oldest gay bar, opened in 1992 by David Perreault and Alan Wood — two Midwest transplants whose car broke down in Jacksonville on a drive back from Key West, and who never left. The original location was on Park Street; they moved to King Street in the late 1990s and are credited with starting what became the King Street Entertainment District in Historic Riverside. The format is a video music bar — 13 interior screens and 3 supersized patio TVs all synced to music video programming Thursday through Saturday. Tuesday is karaoke. The outdoor patio is one of the largest in Riverside. Happy hour runs noon to 7pm daily (2-for-1 wells). Both founders have since passed away; the bar continues as a community institution and active supporter of PFLAG Jacksonville, NFAN, and local charity drives.
