Garbo is a gay piano and jazz lounge on Púlpito Street, at the south end of the Zona Romántica a couple of blocks back from the beach. Open since 2002, it's built for listening rather than dancing: a small, dimly lit, air-conditioned room where live music, jazz, Latin numbers, Broadway tunes, and classic standards, runs nightly through the high season and on a lighter schedule in the off months, with sets typically starting late in the evening. It's long been known for its martinis. The register here is grown-up and conversational, a place to actually hear the person across the table, the kind of warm-up or wind-down spot that suits an evening before or after the louder bars nearby.
