Berlin, Germany
Pink shag-carpeted Kreuzberg dive bar with pop classics and dancing
Roses is a gay bar on Oranienstraße in Kreuzberg, next door to SO36, running for over 20 years. The interior is maximalist even by Berlin standards: pink shag carpet covers every surface — floors, walls, ceiling — alongside leopard-print stools, glittering Madonnas, and enough disco balls to lose count. There's no sign on the door; you find it through the standard Kreuzberg graffiti entrance. The soundtrack is pop classics — Madonna, Kylie, Michael Jackson — loud enough to dance to. Drinks are cheap and cash-only, with gin tonics and vodka tonics the reliable orders. No cover. The bar opens around 10pm and runs until the early morning, making it a natural warm-up before heading next door to SO36 or deeper into Kreuzberg's late-night scene.
