Portland, Oregon
Portland's gay men's bathhouse on NE Sandy, since 2003.
Steam Portland is an all-male bathhouse on NE Sandy Boulevard in the Kerns neighborhood, opened on Valentine's Day 2003 by David Anderson and run as a membership club ever since. It has grown into a fixture of the city's gay scene, and Portland Monthly has called it Oregon's only all-male bathhouse. Inside are roughly 47 private rooms to rent, a large steam room, a hot tub, industrial-style showers, and a video lounge, plus a sprawling outdoor sun deck the house bills as the largest of its kind in the Northwest. The layout was built for the purpose rather than retrofitted, which shows in the way you move through it. The crowd is adult gay and bi men, and the register is matter-of-fact: this is a sex-positive club, not a spa day. Regulars treat it as a low-key place to unwind and socialize, and the 24-hour stretch on weekends draws a steady rhythm of people rather than one big rush. For a traveler, it's a straightforward option in a city where all-male bathhouses have become rare, and the sun deck and hot tub give it a character most rooms-and-steam setups don't have. Trans men and nonbinary guests who legally identify as male or X are welcome. Entry requires a membership and photo ID, so bring identification and expect to sign up on your first visit.
