London, London
Georgian queer pub in Kennington with resident DJs and monthly open mic.
The Cock Tavern is a queer pub in Kennington, South London — not the Soho or Vauxhall club circuit, but a 200-year-old Georgian building near the Oval tube station. It opened in its current queer form in 2017 under Farika Holden, who previously ran the beloved Nelson's Head in East London. The decor is what she calls "Georgian Tiki": eclectic, camp, and classy at once. Open Thursday through Sunday, with resident DJs on weekends, queer open mic nights, and a monthly pub quiz on the first Sunday. The crowd skews 30+ and South London local — a neighborhood pub alternative to the younger-leaning Vauxhall scene up the road. Dogs welcome until 9pm, free entry, no dress code.
