Victorian gay leather bar in Deptford with Backstreet artifacts
The Lord Clyde is a men's gay cruise and fetish bar in a Victorian pub building in Deptford, reopened in June 2022. When London's historic leather institution Backstreet closed that same year, the Lord Clyde's owners bought pieces of it — including the actual bar and sling — and built the new venue around them. Spread across three floors, it pairs a traditional bar with a downstairs play and cruise space and a smoke yard out back. The fetish programming is the draw: Punishment Block on the first Friday of the month, and Rawhide on the fourth Saturday, which enforces a strict leather and rubber dress code. Other nights run more relaxed, with a Sunday Social that pulls a community crowd. It's about five minutes from New Cross station, deep in South London and well off the Soho map — which, for the regulars, is the whole point.
