Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Milwaukee's feminist, queer-friendly erotic boutique on the East Side.
The Tool Shed is Milwaukee's original woman-owned, sex-positive erotic boutique, opened in 2004 by two women who wanted the city to have a shop built around education rather than embarrassment. It started in Riverwest and now sits among the houses and small businesses on the East Side at 2427 N. Murray Avenue, run by a sexuality educator who treats the store as much like a classroom as a retail floor. The stock leans toward body-safe, non-toxic toys alongside books, lingerie, underwear, lube, and gifts, and the staff are known for matter-of-fact, judgment-free advice whether you walk in knowing exactly what you want or with no idea at all. A rotating calendar of workshops and events on sexuality and pleasure rounds out the shop's whole reason for existing — a queer- and feminist-minded space where asking questions is the point.
