What is the Gay Neighborhood in San Diego?

San Diego's primary gay neighborhood is Hillcrest, part of the Uptown community planning area just north of Balboa Park. The neighborhood is bounded by Mission Hills to the northwest, University Heights to the north, North Park to the east, and Bankers Hill and Balboa Park to the south.

The Heart of Hillcrest

The core of the neighborhood centers along University Avenue and Fifth Avenue, anchored by the iconic neon Hillcrest sign that arches over the roadway.
