Part of the Gay San Diego Guide — bars, events & things to do.

San Diego, California
Hillcrest video bar with karaoke, drag, and theme nights.
One of the original gay video bars, Flicks has held down its stretch of University Avenue in Hillcrest for more than four decades. The format is right there in the name: a deep library of music videos and clips plays across the screens above a compact dance floor, with go-go dancers, karaoke, theme nights, and the occasional drag set rounding out the week. There's a pool table inside and a back patio when you need a breather from the screens. The crowd skews younger and rowdier than Hillcrest's quieter dives, and most nights the room fills up fast. It's an easy, low-stakes anchor for a night out on the strip, close enough to Rich's, Urban MO's, and the rest of University Avenue to fold into a longer crawl. Come for Welfare Wednesdays or a karaoke slot, stay for the videos and the people-watching.
