Gay bar on Greenfield Road, west Detroit, at this location since 1980
HALO Bar & Lounge holds down a west-side Detroit corner that has been a gay bar since the Hayloft Saloon opened in 1980. New owners rebranded it as HALO in 2024, and it promptly won Metro Times' 2025 Reader's Choice award for Best Karaoke Night. Twice-weekly karaoke and the seasonal Karaoke Wars are the main draw, backed by DJ nights, bear brunches, a bisexual and poly social, and periodic leather and bondage events. It's a do-something bar rather than a stand-around one, with pool tables, darts, and board games, a food menu that runs to ramen and bar snacks, and a real non-alcoholic list for anyone who isn't drinking. The crowd leans gay men in their 30s and up, bears included, but the door is open to everyone on the west side looking for a sing.
