Iconic clothing-optional gay beach at Torrey Pines, popular for decades.
Black's Beach is a 1.5-mile stretch of Pacific coastline beneath the sandstone bluffs of Torrey Pines, and it's been one of the West Coast's most established gay beaches for decades. The LGBTQ+ crowd gathers at the north end of the beach, deeper into the state-managed clothing-optional zone — no signs mark it, but follow the shoreline north past the main trail and you'll know. Getting there takes effort. The most common route drops from the Torrey Pines Gliderport parking lot down a steep, sandy trail — about 300 feet of elevation in a quarter mile. Wear real shoes, bring water (the climb back is no joke), and pack everything you need: there are no restrooms, food vendors, or shade on the beach itself. Stay clear of the cliff base — the sandstone erodes actively and collapses have been fatal.
