Part of the Gay Amsterdam Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Amsterdam, Netherlands
Classic Dutch gay bar on the Reguliersdwarsstraat strip since 1983.
Café Montmartre has been an Amsterdam gay bar institution since 1983. After four decades on Halvemaansteeg it moved onto Reguliersdwarsstraat — first to number 129 in 2024, then to its current home at number 48 in February 2026, settling into the busier western end of the main gay strip near Rembrandtplein. Inside it's all disco balls and Montmartre-themed decor, with a soundtrack that swings between Dutch sing-along songs and '80s and '90s classics — a formula that's been voted Amsterdam's best gay bar more than once. Wednesday is “Break the Week,” Friday is “Thank God It's Friday” with a DJ, and Sundays open at 3pm with drink specials. It runs Wednesday through Sunday and packs out on weekends. If you want the campy, sing-every-word side of the Amsterdam scene rather than a cooler cocktail room, this is the one to point yourself at.
