Part of the Gay Fort Lauderdale Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Laid-back neighborhood gay bar with karaoke and a backyard patio.
Mona's is a laid-back neighborhood gay bar on East Sunrise Boulevard, open since 1997 and run by owner Jerry Schultz, who named the place after his dog. It's a true local watering hole: cheap drinks, a pool table, karaoke, and bartenders who learn your name. The decor is part of the charm, with a decommissioned church pew for seating, original Tiffany lamps overhead, and popcorn served in dog bowls. The back patio, "Lisa's Backyard," is the heart of the place: dog-friendly, easygoing, and a good spot to settle in for the afternoon. Mona's is a dive in the best sense, drawing a mixed crowd of regulars rather than a see-and-be-seen scene, and it has a long habit of hosting nights that raise money for local community groups. Open daily from noon, later on weekends.
