Part of the Gay Montreal Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Montreal, Québec
Landmark Gay Village leather gear and fashion shop since 1974.
Priape has anchored Montreal's Gay Village since 1974, when it opened on de Maisonneuve as one of North America's first openly gay retail businesses, a storefront where men could buy erotic material, leather, and gear without coded language or a back-room transaction. It moved to its long-time Sainte-Catherine Est address in the late 1980s and has spent more than 50 years in men's fashion, leather and fetish wear, and sexual-wellness products. After the company filed for bankruptcy protection in 2013 and its other Canadian stores closed, the Montreal flagship reopened under new ownership and remains the brand's only physical location, alongside the Priape.com webstore. Between the history and the specialized stock, it's as much a piece of Village heritage as it is a shop.
