Subscribe NowDallas has one of the most concentrated gay bar scenes in the country — and it all happens on Cedar Springs Road. "The Strip" packs more than a dozen LGBTQ+ bars, clubs, restaurants, and shops into a walkable half-mile stretch through the Oak Lawn neighborhood, making it one of the densest gayborhoods in America. You can park once and spend the entire night walking from country-western dancing to a mega-club to a lesbian bar to a drag theater without ever calling a rideshare.
What makes Dallas stand out: the range. A legendary country-western dance hall, one of the most famous drag venues in the South, Texas's oldest lesbian bar, a Latin nightclub, a leather bar, a gaming lounge, and a coffee-shop-by-day-cocktail-bar-by-night — all within the same neighborhood. The scene is anchored by Caven Enterprises, an employee-owned company that's been running Cedar Springs bars since the 1970s and operates four of the strip's biggest venues.
Here are the best LGBTQ+ bars and clubs you need to know in Dallas, plus honorable mentions and spots beyond The Strip that have earned their place in the rotation.
Pro Tip
Nearly every gay bar in Dallas sits on Cedar Springs Road between the 3800 and 4100 blocks (ZIP 75219). You can walk the entire strip in 15 minutes. Start at JR's for happy hour, work your way to Round-Up for dancing, and finish at S4 for the late-night scene. Rideshare from downtown or Uptown hotels is under 10 minutes.
1. Round-Up Saloon
3912 Cedar Springs Rd · Country-western dance hall · Open since 1980
Round-Up Saloon is the crown jewel of LGBTQ+ Dallas and one of the most famous gay bars in the country. This is where boots and belt buckles meet drag and disco — a full-size country-western dance hall with a hardwood floor, multiple bars, and free two-step and line dance lessons three nights a week taught by professional instructors. The energy on weekend nights is electric: cowboys, drag queens, first-time visitors learning the Texas two-step, and regulars who've been coming for decades all sharing the same floor.
Named "Best Galdanged Gay Bar in the U.S. of A." by Instinct Magazine and one of six best gay clubs in the world, Round-Up has been a community anchor since 1980 — surviving an arson fire in 1989, rebuilding, and operating continuously ever since. Even if you've never worn boots in your life, the dance lessons make it accessible and the crowd makes it unforgettable.
- Don't miss: Free line dance and couples dance lessons Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights (8:30–10:30 PM). Tuesday's "The Switch Up" drag show at 11 PM. The "Fantasy All-Trans Revue" on the 2nd and 4th Sundays at 9 PM.
- Good to know: No cover, ever. Free parking. Open Mon–Fri 3 PM, Sat–Sun noon. Karaoke runs almost every night from 9 PM.
2. Station 4 (S4) & The Rose Room
3911 Cedar Springs Rd · Mega-nightclub + drag theater · 24,000 sq ft
Station 4 is the anchor of Cedar Springs nightlife — a 24,000-square-foot, two-story mega-club that's been the biggest LGBTQ+ venue in Texas for decades. The ground floor is all dance club: circuit music, Top 40, EDM, rotating DJs, laser shows, go-go dancers, and 17+ drink stations including the Big Top Bar for frozen drinks. The patio provides a breather between dance sessions.
Upstairs is The Rose Room — one of the most famous drag theaters in America. This isn't a bar show with a microphone and a speaker. Rose Room productions feature full theatrical staging, provocative lighting, costume changes, choreography, and a rotating cast of Dallas drag legends and national guest performers (Asia O'Hara is a longtime resident; Alyssa Edwards performs special events). Your S4 admission covers Rose Room entry. Shows run Thursday at 11 PM and Friday–Sunday at 11 PM and 12:30 AM.
- Don't miss: Rose Room weekend shows — get there early for a seat, they fill up. "Password Friday" gets you free entry 9–11 PM (check social media for the weekly password). Monthly Legendary Gaybingo events.
- Good to know: Cover is ~$8 on Saturday nights. Open Wed–Sun only (closed Mon–Tue). The place peaks after midnight. Owned by Caven Enterprises, an employee-owned company.
Pro Tip
The Rose Room has launched multiple RuPaul's Drag Race contestants and is considered one of the top drag venues in the country. Weekend shows pack out — arrive by 10:30 PM to secure a good spot upstairs.
3. Sue Ellen's
3014 Throckmorton St · Lesbian bar · Open since 1989
The largest and longest-running lesbian bar in the South, and one of only about 32 remaining in the entire United States. Named after Sue Ellen Ewing from the TV show Dallas (the sister bar to JR's across the street — Caven Enterprises runs both), Sue Ellen's has been a cornerstone of Dallas's LGBTQ+ nightlife for over 35 years.
The venue spans two stories with multiple rooms: the main dance floor, the Lipstick Lounge for chill conversation, the Vixin Lounge with live bands, patios, and a game room. The crowd is primarily women and lesbians but genuinely welcoming to everyone — women from across the globe add Sue Ellen's to their Dallas itinerary. Live bands in the Vixin Lounge set it apart from every other bar on The Strip.
- Don't miss: Live bands in the Vixin Lounge on weekends — check their calendar for lineups. Thursday and Sunday karaoke nights. Monthly "Chick Happy Hour" social events for the lesbian community.
- Good to know: Closed Mondays. Open Tue 10:30 PM, Wed–Fri from 5 PM, Sat–Sun from 3 PM. The bar has hosted Charli xcx and Chappell Roan themed dance parties.
Pro Tip
Sue Ellen's is one of fewer than three dozen lesbian bars left in the entire country. The two-floor layout means you can bounce between live music, dancing, and a chill lounge in one venue. Don't skip it — the history alone is worth the visit.
4. TMC: The Mining Company
3903 Cedar Springs Rd · Nightclub & bar · Open since 1978
One of the longest-running LGBTQ+ venues in Dallas, TMC has been a Cedar Springs staple since 1978 — nearly 50 years and counting. The bi-level club features an intimate dance floor, DJs spinning dance and pop music, go-go boys, two outdoor patios, and pool tables. No cover charge and reasonably priced drinks make it one of the best values on The Strip.
TMC fills a sweet spot between the chill neighborhood bars and the mega-club energy of S4 — there's real energy here, but it never feels overwhelming. The front patio is prime people-watching territory on Cedar Springs, and the place stays packed precisely because there's no barrier to entry.
- Don't miss: The front patio for Cedar Springs people-watching. Go-go boys on weekends. The no-cover, no-attitude policy that's kept this place packed for decades.
- Good to know: Open daily 2 PM–2 AM. No cover charge. Part of the Caven Enterprises family. One of the best-value bar experiences on The Strip.
Pro Tip
Most Cedar Springs bars have no cover charge on regular nights. S4 charges ~$8 on Saturdays and Havana charges $5–10 (includes a food ticket). Drink prices are notably lower than comparable scenes in LA, NYC, or Chicago — strong pours are the norm, especially at Hidden Door and Pekers.
5. JR's Bar & Grill
3923 Cedar Springs Rd · Video bar · Open since the early 1980s
When locals say "meet me at JR's," everyone knows the spot. Named after J.R. Ewing from the TV show Dallas (Caven Enterprises capitalized on the connection), this classic video bar has been the see-and-be-seen gathering spot on Cedar Springs for over 40 years. Three full bars — two downstairs and one upstairs on a large covered patio overlooking the Strip — plus music videos on screens and a happy hour crowd that makes this the default pre-game for the rest of the night.
JR's is where Cedar Springs nights begin. The street-facing patio is the best people-watching perch on The Strip, happy hour runs Friday–Sunday 5–8 PM with well drinks at $1.45, and the casual, social energy makes it the easiest bar to walk into if you're new to the neighborhood.
- Don't miss: The upstairs patio for prime Cedar Springs people-watching. Happy hour well drinks at $1.45 (Fri–Sun 5–8 PM). Monday's "Freakshow" drag show at 11 PM.
- Good to know: No cover. Opens at noon most days. Celebrating its 45th anniversary in 2025. The natural starting point for any Cedar Springs bar crawl.
6. Dallas Eagle
525 S Riverfront Blvd, Design District · Leather & bear bar
Dallas's home base for the leather, bear, and kink community — and the anchor venue for Texas Bear Round-Up (TBRU), one of the biggest bear events in the country. Located in the Design District about 10 minutes from Cedar Springs by rideshare, the Eagle has two floors with multiple bars, an outdoor patio, and a rotating calendar of themed nights that covers every corner of the community.
Don't let the leather intimidate you. The Eagle is genuinely welcoming, with an unpretentious crowd and an atmosphere that's more community-focused than exclusive. The Brewery Bears Beerfest on Saturday afternoons — discounted craft beers, free food, free merch, free pool — is one of the best-value social events in LGBTQ+ Dallas.
- Don't miss: Thursday Bear Night. Friday Pet Night (pup/handler events). Saturday Gear/Leather Night. Sunday Trash Disco tea dance. The Brewery Bears Beerfest on Saturday afternoons.
- Good to know: Closed Mondays. Opens Tue–Fri at 5 PM, Sat–Sun at 1 PM. Located in the Design District — you'll need a rideshare from Cedar Springs.

7. Alexandre's
4026 Cedar Springs Rd · Piano bar & live music venue
The go-to spot for live music on Cedar Springs — every single night features a different performer or genre, spanning rock, jazz, Broadway, and blues. Alexandre's draws a slightly more mature, cocktail-focused crowd and offers what the dance clubs can't: conversation, carefully crafted drinks, and an intimate atmosphere built around live performance. The recently expanded space now includes a full food menu, making it easy to spend an entire evening here.
If you want a Cedar Springs night that doesn't involve a dance floor or thumping bass, Alexandre's is the answer. It's been an Oak Lawn staple for over 19 years.
- Don't miss: The nightly live music lineup — check their website for the full monthly calendar. The cocktail menu is a cut above standard bar fare.
- Good to know: No cover typically. Opens at noon most days. The crowd skews older and more sophisticated than the clubs. Recently added food service.
8. Kaliente
4350 Maple Ave · Latinx gay nightclub
Dallas's standout gay-owned Latino nightspot on Maple Avenue, just off the main Cedar Springs strip. Kaliente brings pure late-night Latin dance energy — salsa, cumbia, reggaeton, merengue, plus Top 40 — with drag shows hosted by local Latinx divas, amateur strip contests with cash prizes, and Saturday Rumba nights that are legendary in the community.
Where Havana serves dinner before the party, Kaliente is all about the midnight-to-close dance floor. The crowd is predominantly Latino/a and the energy is consistently high.
- Don't miss: Saturday Rumba nights. The drag shows and amateur competitions. The late-night energy after midnight.
- Good to know: Open most nights 9 PM–2 AM (closed Wednesdays). Cover charge varies. On Maple Ave, a short walk from the main Cedar Springs strip.
Pro Tip
Cedar Springs Road has the main cluster, but don't miss the venues slightly off The Strip. Kaliente and Marty's Live are on Maple Avenue (a 5-minute walk), Dallas Eagle is in the Design District (10-minute rideshare), and Hidden Door is on Bowser Avenue (5-minute walk). The best Dallas bar crawl hits at least one off-strip spot.
9. Dallas Woody's
4011 Cedar Springs Rd · Gay sports bar
The "friendliest sports bar in Dallas" — and they earned the title. Woody's has 28 wide-screen monitors, sports memorabilia on the walls, daily happy hour until 8 PM, and a nightly entertainment rotation that goes well beyond game days. It's the home bar for Dallas's LGBTQ+ sports leagues (softball, volleyball, bowling) and a neighborhood gathering spot for the crowd that wants to watch the game with their community.
- Don't miss: Showtune Tuesday sing-alongs. Sunday Rock Band Bar Night. Daily happy hour until 8 PM. The "Miss Wanda" show on Wednesdays.
- Good to know: No cover. Opens Mon–Thu at 2 PM, Fri–Sun at noon. Weekly karaoke on Monday and Thursday.
10. Hidden Door
5025 Bowser Ave · Dive bar · Open since 1979
Dallas's oldest continuously operating gay bar, and a genuine community institution. Hidden Door has been serving the neighborhood since 1979 with the formula that makes a great dive: cheap drinks with stiff pours, a pool table, darts, video lottery games, walls covered in community memorabilia, and bartenders who don't mess around. The place opens at 7 AM — yes, 7 AM — and nearly all net profits go back to local nonprofits through the Anthony Bobrow Trust.
Locals used to call it "The Open" because there was no sign outside. Zero pretense, cash only, and a crowd of regulars who treat everyone like family. If you want to see a side of Dallas queer life that isn't the Cedar Springs scene, start here.
- Don't miss: The old-school Dallas charm and stiff pours. The patio. The 7 AM opening time if you're an early riser (or a very late closer).
- Good to know: CASH ONLY. Open Mon–Sat 7 AM–2 AM, Sun noon–2 AM. On Bowser Ave, a short walk from the main strip. All profits benefit local nonprofits.

Honorable Mentions
These bars didn't crack the top 10, but they're all worth a visit — especially if you're building a fuller picture of Dallas's LGBTQ+ nightlife.
CRUSH
2914 Oak Lawn Ave · Nightclub & dance bar
The newest energy on the scene. CRUSH opened in mid-2024 and immediately earned D Magazine's "Best New(ish) Gay Bar" with its fusion of house, disco, pop, and classic throwbacks. Disco balls, elaborate decor, themed pop-up bars, and a weekly lineup that includes drag shows, Drag Race viewing parties, and karaoke. The bar hit a rough patch in late 2025 (financial crisis, temporary closure) but rallied with community support and a new investor. As of 2026, it's back with a full schedule.
Havana Bar & Grill
4006 Cedar Springs Rd · Latin restaurant & nightclub
Restaurant by evening, Latin dance club by night. Havana's covered patio gets lively with salsa, reggaeton, and merengue after 11 PM, and the drag shows most nights warm up the crowd. The cover charge ($5–10) includes a food ticket you can redeem for a plate — a nice touch.
Cheat Code Lounge
3911 Cedar Springs Rd, Suite B · Gaming bar & speakeasy
Forty-plus classic arcade games meet craft cocktails in a neon-lit speakeasy setting, right next door to S4. Dallas Observer's "Best Gamer Spot" 2024. The perfect date spot or pre-club warm-up — start chill at Cheat Code, then walk next door to S4 when you're ready to dance.
Marty's Live
4207 Maple Ave · Nightclub
The hub for Dallas's Black LGBTQ+ community. Hip-hop and R&B-focused music, go-go dancers six nights a week, drag shows, talent competitions, and a Tuesday Lesbian Night with female dancers. Marty's fills a space that most Cedar Springs bars don't — and it does it with energy to spare.
Liquid Zoo
2506 Knight St · Sports bar & entertainment venue
A true do-everything neighborhood bar — karaoke (their signature "Cher-aoke" is a beloved tradition), drag shows, go-go dancers, sports on TV, trivia nights, drag brunches, and a full pub food menu. Three bars including a patio. Opens at 11 AM daily, making it great for day drinking and brunch.
Pinkies Coffee + Cocktails
3900 Cedar Springs Rd · Coffee shop by day, cocktail lounge by night
The only daytime coffee destination on Cedar Springs. Opens at 7 AM with lattes, matcha, and pastries in a vivid pink-painted space, then transforms into a craft cocktail lounge at night with espresso martinis, matcha martinis, live DJs, and ambient lighting. Opened in 2024 by the team behind the former Mr. Misster.
Pro Tip
Pinkies is the answer to "what's open on Cedar Springs before 5 PM?" Coffee shop from 7 AM, cocktail lounge by night. It fills a gap the neighborhood has needed for years.
Lava Lounge
3908 Cedar Springs Rd · VIP nightclub
The most upscale spot on The Strip — Vegas-style bottle service, VIP tables, and an impressive light show and sound system. Open Thu–Sun only. If you want a high-end nightlife experience in the gayborhood, Lava brings a completely different energy from the standard Cedar Springs bars.
Beyond The Strip
Barbara's Pavillion
325 Centre St, Oak Cliff · LGBTQ+ dive bar · 50+ years
A 50-year-old Oak Cliff institution far from Cedar Springs, Barbara's won Dallas Observer's "Best LGBTQ+ Bar" in 2024. The rainbow-decorated interior, pool tables, interactive jukebox, and "come as you are" philosophy create a queer refuge with a completely different energy from The Strip. Thursday and Sunday karaoke nights draw loyal crowds, and the burlesque shows every third Wednesday are unique among Dallas LGBTQ+ bars.
Queer Factor! at Dallas Comedy Club
3036 Elm St, Deep Ellum · LGBTQ+ variety show
The only dedicated LGBTQ+ comedy and variety show in DFW — stand-up, improv, burlesque, drag, and sketch by queer performers. Held once a month (typically first Thursday) at the Dallas Comedy Club in Deep Ellum. A refreshing alternative to the bar scene.
Which Bar Is Right for You?
Not sure where to start? Here's the cheat sheet:
- I want to dance. S4 (mega-club), TMC (intimate dance floor), CRUSH (house/disco)
- I want country-western dancing. Round-Up Saloon (the only answer)
- I want a chill drink. JR's (classic video bar), Alexandre's (piano bar), Hidden Door (legendary dive)
- I want drag. Rose Room at S4 (world-class), Round-Up (Tuesday drag show), Sue Ellen's (emerging queens)
- I want sports on. Woody's (28 screens), Liquid Zoo (neighborhood sports bar)
- I want sapphic/women's spaces. Sue Ellen's (Texas's oldest lesbian bar), Marty's Live (Tuesday Lesbian Night)
- I want leather/kink. Dallas Eagle (themed nights every weekend)
- I want Latin music. Kaliente (late-night dance party), Havana (dinner + dancing)
- I want something different. Cheat Code Lounge (arcade games + cocktails), Pinkies (coffee-to-cocktails), Barbara's Pavillion (Oak Cliff dive)
- I'm on a date. Alexandre's (live music + cocktails), Lava Lounge (VIP vibes), Pinkies (daytime coffee, nighttime cocktails)
- I'm on a budget. Hidden Door (cash only, stiff pours), Pekers Bar (8-hour daily happy hour), TMC (no cover, cheap drinks)
Is Dallas LGBTQ+-Friendly?
Yes — Dallas is one of the most LGBTQ-friendly cities in the South, with an estimated 211,000 LGBTQ+ residents (the sixth-largest queer population in the country). Oak Lawn has been the gayborhood since the 1970s and earned official state recognition as an LGBT neighborhood in 2018 — the first in Texas. Rainbow crosswalks mark the intersections, Pride flags fly year-round, and the community infrastructure is strong.
Texas state politics are a different story — several anti-LGBTQ+ laws passed in 2025. But within Dallas city limits, especially Oak Lawn and Uptown, you'll feel welcome and safe. The community's attitude is defiant and visible.
How Do I Get Around Between Bars?
You don't need to. That's the beauty of Cedar Springs — every bar on The Strip is within a 15-minute walk. Park once (side streets have free parking; most bars have small lots) or rideshare from your hotel, and you're set for the entire night. For the Dallas Eagle in the Design District, you'll need a 10-minute rideshare. For Barbara's Pavillion in Oak Cliff, it's about 15 minutes by rideshare.
Pro Tip
Bar close in Texas is 2 AM. Last call comes fast after midnight, so don't sleep on happy hours and early evening shows if you want to maximize your night. Most Cedar Springs bars open between noon and 3 PM — day drinking is a legitimate option.
What's the Best Night to Go Out in Dallas?
Friday and Saturday are peak across the board, with S4 and TMC hitting their stride after midnight. But the midweek programming is strong: Monday and Thursday line dance lessons at Round-Up, Tuesday's "The Switch Up" drag show at Round-Up and Showtune Tuesday at Woody's, Wednesday's karaoke at CRUSH, Thursday's Bear Night at the Eagle. Every night has something happening on Cedar Springs.
Are There Lesbian and Queer Women's Bars?
Sue Ellen's on Throckmorton Street is Texas's oldest lesbian bar and one of the few remaining in the country. Two floors, live music, multiple rooms, and a diverse crowd. Marty's Live on Maple Ave hosts Tuesday Lesbian Night with female dancers. For broader sapphic community events, follow the "Chick Happy Hour" monthly socials organized through the Sue Ellen's community.
Can I Do a Bar Crawl on Cedar Springs?
Cedar Springs was built for a bar crawl — here are three routes:
- Classic Strip crawl: JR's (happy hour) → TMC (warm up) → Round-Up (dance) → S4/Rose Room (late night)
- Chill night crawl: Pinkies (coffee/cocktails) → Alexandre's (live music) → Woody's (games) → Hidden Door (nightcap)
- Full experience crawl: JR's → Sue Ellen's → Havana → Cheat Code → Round-Up → S4/Rose Room → finish at TMC for last call
When Is Dallas Pride?
Dallas has two Pride celebrations. Dallas Pride is Saturday, June 6, 2026 — the first-ever nighttime parade through downtown Dallas plus an all-day festival across four parks. Pride in Dallas on Cedar Springs runs September 13–20, 2026, with a week of bar events culminating in the Michael Doughman Parade on Sunday, September 20. Every bar on this list goes all out for both.
